Dunlop's Renu material explains that sugar-cane-derived content is used as a renewable alternative to some conventional plastic-based material. The sustainability argument is that sugar cane is renewable and can reduce dependence on fossil-derived feedstocks in the product's manufacture. That does not mean the entire underlay is made from sugar cane or that every Dunlop underlay uses the same construction. If renewable content is important to you, ask for the current Renu product specification so you can see exactly where the sugar-cane-derived material is used and what other environmental attributes apply.
