Start with how the space will be used: expected foot traffic, wheeled equipment, entry dirt, cleaning routines and the look you need all affect suitability. Woven constructions such as Axminster and Wilton can provide detailed patterns and a refined finish, but the construction alone does not establish that a particular carpet is suitable for heavy commercial use. Ask for the product’s intended application, fibre and construction specifications, and any relevant performance information for your project. Also consider whether the design can disguise everyday soiling, how joins and transitions will be handled, and what underlay and installation method are recommended for busy routes. Cleaning requirements matter too: a carpet that needs specialist care may not suit a site with limited maintenance resources. If the space has specific safety, fire, acoustic or accessibility requirements, confirm those against the applicable project specification rather than relying on appearance or a general product description. Take room plans, use details and any building requirements when comparing samples, and confirm current specifications and suitability with the supplier before committing.
